Freight
As a small freight business, Elgin Transport is big in providing efficient service to a niche` market. Nigiel and Susan purchased Elgin Transport in 2014 and continue to provide the Ashburton to Christchurch freight service that the original owner set up. Trucking might be in Nigiel’s blood as his dad operated Waikawa Freight for many years in Southland. The business partnership works very well as Nigiel handles the coalface as driver, the pick-up and drop off of freight and Susan handles administration and advertising. A weekday freight service, Elgin Transport travels via State Highway 1 or through Southbridge, Leeston and Doyleston. An Iveco curtainsider with 9.1m deckspace is operated. General freight loads can vary from pallets to lengths of steel. Elgin Transport delivers same day unless there is some unforeseeable event that prevents this.
