Schools
Bishop Viard College occupies 7.15ha adjacent to the Porirua City Centre. The College was
founded by Cardinal Peter McKeefry and established in 1968 by the Assumptionist Fathers
and the Brigidine Sisters. The school offers a well-rounded education that is enriched by the
school’s Catholic character. The proprietor of the school is Cardinal John Dew of the
Archdiocese of Wellington. Most students who attend Bishop Viard live in the Porirua area
which means that there is strong community involvement. The school reflects and values
the cultural diversity of its community and aims to develop cross-cultural understanding
across the student body.
Our Mission Statement is Bishop Viard College is a Catholic, co-educational school
committed to nurturing each student to grow in Christ, and in the awareness that the
possession of knowledge is a call to serve others. We aim to provide all students a
purposeful education and to graduate with a meaningful qualification.
