Around the world, societies and communities are facing the very real prospect of a future with dwindling oil reserves, depleted non-renewable resources, climate change and the effects this will have on food production. What are ways we might move away from our dependency on fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gases, yet still enjoy a good quality of life?
Transition Towns is a growing global movement that strives to create more self-reliant local communities, to 'transition' away from our dependence on fossil fuels and to develop more efficient ways to create sustainable energy and food production while reducing our impact on the environment.
We believe our communities have within themselves the innovation and skills to create positive solutions to these issues. We believe in igniting and supporting local responses at any level and from anyone, to foster dialogue - and actions - within our community that will have a lasting contribution to future generations.
It is an invitation to choose hope and action over denial and resignation.
