Our story began in 2012 after members in our community wanted to create a stronger heart for the suburb in its town centre. They wanted the heart of Te Atatu South to be both buzzing with life and community warmth. They wanted it to be a place that was exciting and inclusive for everyone in the community. A place everyone would want to come to and be part of our close-knit community. The Te Atatu South Community Association was formed operating under the name of Heart Of Te Atatu South (HOTAS). The HOTAS Hub was also created inside the old library and is run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to: * Provide a vibrant community hub facility that meets the needs of the thriving community. * Provide a voice and support to improve the sense of identity and belonging to the whole of Te Atatu South and surrounding community. * Create a connected community both socially and in the built environment to improve people's health and wellbeing. * Enable community lead initiatives. Empowering the community. We currently run out of our community centre hub (the HOTAS Hub) a number of events and programmes to try bring the heart back to our community centre and town centre. These include our annual festival, markets, free book exchange, playgroups, yoga classes, knitting classes, craft groups, breastfeeding groups and school holiday programmes. The HOTAS Hub is designed to be a flexible friendly space for all members in the community to utilise as a pop-in space. It is a social space to meet-up in, have a cup of tea and chat, use for meetings, use as a work space, etc. It has free internet, coffee/ tea, games, toys, projector, printer, sofas and desk spaces. It will develop more activities and programmes overtime with the needs of the community. So come on in a be part of your community. All welcome.
