Deafness is an ‘invisible’ disability. As a result, many deaf and hearing impaired people often experience feelings of isolation, loneliness and frustration. Apart from alerting the person to sounds within the home (such as the doorbell, alarm clock, timers, baby monitors, text messages, smoke/fire alarms), there are many other tangible benefits of Hearing Dogs: companionship, security, increased self-confidence, greater independence, reduced stress, increased social interaction, new interest and responsibility, increased regular exercise, to name but a few. Our highly trained dogs are gifted FREE to suitable applicants. Hearing Dogs NZ receive no government funding, and so rely on donations and sponsorship from individuals, groups and organisations.
