Food Finders Trust primarily sources quality fresh food from businesses that would otherwise go to waste and distributes it on the same day, to the homeless, those in need and Charities and Trusts that support the vulnerable in our community. We also supply boxes of food for emergency relief to individuals and families and then refer them to a free budgeting service. We now have twenty-five businesses on board that donate food every Saturday and we are on average distributing an average of 170kg of food every week to Under The Stars in Tauranga Central and Te Puke, a community group that feed the homeless and those in need every Saturday. We give produce to the chefs to use for cooking hot meals and provide takeaway food like bakery items, sandwiches and mixed bags of fruit and veggies for the homeless and those in need. We also supply food to Charities, three Homes of Hope, that foster children who have been neglected and abused and The Open Home Foundation, that foster children with disabilities and provide respite care. We intend in time to use some funding for food vouchers for those in need. Half of our volunteers have completed the course in Food Hygiene & Safety for Food Handlers and all are trained and given full information on this.
