In 1995 group of Tamils lived in Christchurch region realised the need of formal representation of Tamils in the Canterbury region. As a result of this the Canterbury Tamil Society was formed in 1996. The society represents Tamils living in the Canterbury region and actively involve in promoting Tamil language and its cultural values to their younger generations. Our Objectives To promote Tamil Language education, Culture and Sports. To foster improved relationship between Tamil community and other communities in New Zealand. To show solidarity to and support humanitarian causes relating to Tamil speaking communities. To help and assist any community or relief organisation
