Nearly 5 years ago we found our dream property and set about making our dreams a reality. We’ve had a great time bringing back to life this special property and getting to know its wonderful community. We’ve enjoyed sharing our piece of paradise with friends and family. Our airbnb guests call it ‘an oasis’. Our circumstances have now changed and we are having to move on to pastures new and so we are looking to hand over the reigns to new owners/guardians.

Located 14km up an unsealed road, near the top of a river valley in South Hokianga, lies a 2 bedroom board and batten, hand-built farmhouse on a beautiful lifestyle block. Built in the 1980's, the house features amazing woodwork all hand joined, stained glass windows, timber floors, an old Shacklock 501 oven with wet back and a large log burning fire.

The title is part of a cross lease property which includes 4 other households and gives you energetic ownership of approx 3 acres of land, which comprises approximately 2 acres of paddocks/grazing and an acre of gardens and orchard space. On top of this you get a quarter share in the 81 hectares of bush which is generally used as a conservation block and backs onto DOC land of the Waipua Forest. Back in the 70’s the land was communally farmed, however these days the occupants tend to keep to themselves and work on their own sections.

Water is supplied by tank from the roof with an endless backup of pristine river water which also feeds the gardens, workshops and paddocks. For convenience there is also a Rheem califont to heat water. Waste is treated via septic tank which is in good order and was last cleared in December 2022.

The grounds have been organically cultivated for over 50 years and include raised veggie beds, numerous ornamental plants, shrubs and trees, an orchard with plums, apples, feijoa, grapefruit, lemons, olives etc.
Next to the farmhouse sits a great little self-contained unit that is currently listed on AirBnB and is very popular with tourists and Kiwis alike. We use this to supplement our income and for friends and family, however it could be far more productive for someone with the energy to push the business forward. It would also make a good space for other family members, a great granny flat. SH12 is one of the main tourist routes with Tane Mahuta, the Kauri forests, Omapare, Opononi and the Hokianga Harbour all within 30 minutes drive. There is also an amazing west coast beach at Waimamaku, especially if you like to surf the wild waves!

The workshop/studio/accommodation has to be seen to be believed. With large barn style doors, a separate power supply and small shower room. The best artists studio you could wish for or alternatively you can just use it to store… just about anything.
