As it happens it needs someone with some special mechanical abilities to make some new parts for the spring motor system. If anyone knows someone who has "lost" one of these could they please get in touch with me. Otherwise I will have to sell it during my current downsizing. If it "rings a bell" please contact me and I can post some pictures.

What’s a damaged casserole pot, a beat-up printer, busted car door and a cracked letterbox have in common?
Nothing normally but they’re a public reminder of the value of our organisation.
Citizens Advice Bureau Auckland branches, including Helensville, are teaming up with TradeMe, to present a series of auctions which metaphorically represent the cost of free advice given by our volunteers throughout February.
The creative campaign feature a cracked letterbox worth $34,350 (over 229 hours on tenancy advice), a damaged casserole pot worth $33,450 (over 223 hours on consumer rights), a beat up printer worth $30,750 (over 147 hours on employment dispute cases), a broken car part worth $24,450 (on all vehicle advice).
Visitors to the auctions, which close on March 14, can also call CAB as a forum to ask questions and seek advice.
ACABx, the board responsible for negotiating and administering funding with Auckland Council on behalf of the nine Auckland CABs with 33 branches, secured a timely Radio New Zealand slot to highlight the auctions.
National Radio host Jesse Mulligan started the interview by reading a text from a grateful CAB client helping him receive free legal advice to retrieve a refund for an event’s tickets from his bank.
Jesse then questioned John Farrell, CAB Orakei volunteer and a former CEO of some of the world’s most renowned hotels.
John says despite his previous skills it was like starting again as he went through extensive CAB training to learn how to help clients. “We don’t use our own opinion but point them in the right direction.”
John estimates he’s taken over 700 calls in his six years acknowledging the accuracy and information from CABNET and support of fellow volunteers with expertise on certain subjects.
He says CAB is for everyone, not just those suffering deprivation and volunteering is very satisfying to empower clients to receive genuine help and provide relief for them.
“There’s a sense of learning and working with like-minded people,” he says about his comradeship with his colleagues.
In illustrating the real-life impact of the CAB's work on individuals and communities, John articulated the significance of our mission and the collective effort required to sustain our vital service.
“I am also always surprised at how many Kiwis don’t know about our services, that we can help them, for free in their time of need or to help solve the trickiest situations,” he says. “This is our chance to remind New Zealanders of this extremely important service and the impact this advice can have on people’s lives.”

Peter is helping us out with something that nearly everyone can relate to – dealing with the unsorted photos taking up space on your phone or languishing in boxes in your home.

“Without fail, when I give a talk about getting organised, I’m always asked how to deal with photos,” says Peter.

Boxes of unsorted photos can feel overwhelming to organise so they often get left for many years to clutter up our houses. In addition to this, most of us have smartphones that make it easy to take photos anywhere, so pretty soon our digital photo life becomes cluttered too.

Susan Williams from Frankleigh Park in New Plymouth has nominated Kathryn Shaw as a Nice Neighbour. She says:
'Kathryn and her partner Chris spent all Waitangi day replacing and repairing our dividing fence, they did such an amazing job. Chris also brought me a load of firewood when I ran out in winter for which I was so grateful. If I ever need a hand with any heavy work or lifting, I know I only have to ask and they are there. There have been so many instances over the years where Kathryn's help has been given, too many to name. I wouldn't swap my neighbours for anyone else this is why I am still here after 20 years.'

Know a deserving local? Nominate them for a Nice Neighbour award here.

Please follow our top tips to reduce the risk of mail theft:
✉️ Clear your letterbox in a timely manner
✉️ Put a hold on your mail delivery if you’re going away
✉️ Provide clear delivery instructions for couriers to leave a package safely hidden or secured within your property
✉️ Install security cameras and/or security camera messaging near your letterbox or front of property
✉️ Where practical, consider click and collect over delivery
✉️ Send parcels to a work address or ensuring you're home when they arrive
✉️ Contact Police (111 for immediate issues or 105 if it is after the fact) if you see people loitering around vehicles or looking into car windows
✉️ Engage in neighbourhood groups so more people can keep an eye out for suspicious activity

These tips are being shared after a 44-year-old woman will appear in Pukekohe District Court on 28 March charged with theft.
An alleged mail thief in the Pukekohe area has hand-delivered herself into Police, following assistance from the community.
Counties Manukau South Senior Sergeant MJ Riddle says Police were aware of locals discussing a mail theft on social media. A report was made to Police at the time in January and had included enough detail including CCTV footage and a vehicle of interest. Following Police enquiries, the woman has brought herself into the Pukekohe Police Station a few days later

“This is a great result for the community and a timely reminder to the public to continue reporting any thefts from letterboxes.”
Senior Sergeant Riddle says
“Our community should be able to receive parcels and mail without concern of interference but unfortunately there are people in our communities who take advantage of opportunities to commit thefts from mail boxes and front porches."

“We encourage anyone who has been the victim of dishonesty offending to report it as soon as possible,” she says."

A group of residents from Ryman Healthcare’s Keith Park Village in Hobsonville are taking action to help primary school students from nearby Scott Point School cross the road safely.

The six residents were horrified to see primary aged children, often on bikes and scooters, hurrying along the pathway which then deceptively continues right over Clark Road next to the village.

Because of the design features, and visibility issues from parked vehicles, there was often little time for children to realise they were crossing a road, and little time for drivers to slow down or stop.
