103-year-old woman receives contactless cake delivery from New World
A 103-year-old woman was expecting a “dull” birthday after lockdown called off gatherings, but a random act of kindness turned things around.
“We were going to have a little gathering but then the lockdown stopped that, so my granddaughter got New World to send a cake,” Huapai resident Nell said.
“It was quite a nice surprise to receive that, and I am quite amazed that people had gone through that trouble.”
New World Kumeu baked and delivered without contact a cake on Wednesday after a request from Nell’s family.
Her daughter, Bernadette Fagan, said Nell was “overwhelmed” by the act.
“We thought it was going to be very dull after lockdown was announced. So we were a bit sad and though we’d just end up doing something plain,” she said.
“But then New World baked a beautiful cake and iced it for mum’s birthday, so it was absolutely lovely.”
