Houseplants looking sick? The plant doctor answers your questions

Mikaela Wilkes Reporter from Homed

Hi neighbours,

Hi neighbours,
Thank you to everyone who submitted questions about their sickly plant babies. Houseplants might be fashionable, but they can be tricky to get right. Whether it’s the wrong light, too much or too little water, or a pesky draft, it doesn’t take much for your prize peace lily to turn yellow or an infestation of bugs to set in.

We put some of your houseplant questions to the plant doctors from Kings Plant Barn to diagnose. Find their answers here.

Flock of hens

Julia Neighbourly Lead from South Wairarapa District

Did someone post on Neighbourly that they wanted to rehome a little flock of hens? I neglected to save the post and can no longer find it. To be fair, it might have been on Facebook, so I'm canvassing my options!

Hi neighbours,

Want to know when it's your turn to get the Covid-19 vaccine?
An online tool (click on Read More) which can help New Zealanders figure out which vaccination group they’re in has been released.
The questionnaire is available on the Unite Against Covid-19 website.
Users answer a short series of questions about their health, location, job, and life situation.
The results tell them which of the four main vaccination groups they’re in, and when they can expect to get their vaccine.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the tool also provided more information about who is in each group.
“So if you’re a healthcare worker or work in a long-term residential environment, for example, it will provide an indication when you can expect to get vaccinated.
“You don’t need to provide any information that could be used to identify you, and the information you do provide isn’t saved once you leave the web page.”
The ministry said it was in the process of being translated into 24 languages, which would start to appear on the website from Monday.
The website page and online tool will be updated as the vaccine roll-out plan scales up.
“As we move through the roll-out of the vaccination programme, we want people to be as informed as soon as possible about when they can expect to be vaccinated.
“This tool is designed to make that as easy as possible,” Bloomfield said.

Carterton District Council is reminding everyone continue to boil their water while it continues to work to identify the E.coli source.
This means Carterton businesses and urban residents connected to the town supply must boil all water before being used for drinking, making baby formula, juice, ice, washing fruit and vegetables, other food preparation/cooking needs, or brushing teeth.

- Boiling will kill all disease-causing organisms.
- Bring water to a rolling boil (where bubbles appear in the centre and do not disappear when the water is stirred) for one minute or boil a full electric jug until it switches off.
- Cool water (do not use ice cubes to do this) and pour into clean container with a lid.
- Refrigerate until needed.
