Can I post a photo of a neighbour breaching the Alert Level rules?
In the spirit of showing kindness and respect to others in our communities, and to ensure conversations on Neighbourly are civil and productive, Neighbourly members should avoid posting messages or photos intending to 'name and shame'. This includes sharing photos of, or information about, those you believe are flouting the Government's Alert Level rules.
Neighbourly has a very clear policy on Naming and Shaming and we encourage all members to familiarise themselves with this before posting a photo of anyone on Neighbourly without that person's permission.
As Neighbourly is not an official reporting line for non-compliance incidents, please refer to the COVID-19 reporting resources on the Police and Crimestoppers websites.

COVID-19 Misinformation on Neighbourly
Neighbourly has a set of moderation principles to ensure conversations on our website remain civil and productive.
In light of COVID-19, we are also moderating content to help prevent misinformation spreading throughout our communities - however well-intentioned some messages may be.
Content moderated (removed) by Neighbourly may include:
COVID-19 conspiracy theories
Alternative cures and prevention methods
Theories around causes and how the virus spreads
Information we believe to be misleading or harmful to the wellbeing of New Zealand communities
Fake COVID-19 Government announcements
Any other non-scientifically based information, or information not in line with the Unite against COVID-19 website.
If you spot a post in your neighbourhood that you believe contains incorrect information relating to COVID-19, please report it to the Neighbourly team for review.
Please avoid publicly calling out a neighbour for sharing misinformation, and instead send them a friendly private message explaining why the information they've shared is of concern.

My neighbours aren't abiding by the Alert Level rules!
We appreciate how frustrating it can be to see a person not following the Alert Level rules, especially when most people are adjusting their lives to adhere to these Government guidelines.
If you see a Neighbourly member engaging in or encouraging an activity that concerns you, your first reaction may be to call them out publicly. Unfortunately this rarely leads to a good response from your neighbour, and can cause distress and embarrassment in a public forum.
We always encourage Neighbourly members to assume good intentions in others - assume that some people may simply be unaware of what is required of New Zealanders at this time. It's also important more than ever that we are kind to one another.
Here are a few things you can do instead of calling someone out publicly:
Share a link to the Unite against COVID-19 website
Send your neighbour a friendly private messge explaining why their actions are causing you (and potentially others) concern
Keep scrolling - let someone else in your community address the issue
As Neighbourly is not an official reporting line for neighbours breaking the rules, if you have concerns about this activity please refer to the COVID-19 reporting resources on the Police and Crimestoppers websites.

Neighbourhood trading during Alert Levels
Alert Levels 3 and 4
To discourage New Zealanders from leaving their homes for non-essentials, Neighbourly does not support neighbourhood trading (buying, selling or giving away items) during alert levels 3 and 4. We request that you wait until your neighbourhood has moved to a lower alert level before trading with your community.
Please note - we may approve your post if it is clear that trading will not commence until non-essential activity is allowed again. We will use our discretion in these cases.
We encourage all Neighbourly members to refer to the Unite against Covid-19 website for guidance around what the current alert levels mean for you and your community.
Alert Level 2
Neighbourly Market can be used during Alert Level 2, however there are still a few guidelines all members should follow to ensure safe trades between neighbours:
Always follow these Government requirements at each Alert Level
Do not use Neighbourly Market if you are unwell
Keep a safe distance (at least 1 metre) from others when dropping off or picking up items - keep trading contactless
Clean and disinfect any items you are giving away or bringing into your home
Wash your hands thoroughly after touching anything that has been in contact with others, including cash
Keep a record of who you have traded with, in case contact tracing is required
